Masturdate (mah-ster-deyt)

1. (Noun) to take oneself on an outing that would traditionally involve a romantic partner. The act of doing a thing one wants to do even if one cannot find a friend to participate.
eg. “No one I knew wanted to go so I took myself on a masturdate to see the new Joss Whedon movie”

2. To amuse or stimulate oneself instead of relying on others.
“Some people think going to a bar alone is depressing, but I took myself on a masturdate last night and the cocktails were divine”

3. (Verb) The practice of going to social functions and events alone instead of with a date.
“Everyone I knew was busy and couldn’t make it to the gallery opening so I masturdated it”

4. The theory and practice of becoming self sufficient and learning to be comfortable doing things one wants without having to rely on companionship. This includes learning to enjoy eating out, going to concerts/festivals, movies, art events, plays/musicals etc. alone.

- I coined this term the other day because I couldn’t think of anyone to ask to go see Iron Man 3 with me who hadn’t already.
